Kenneth Burdick

Board Chairman

Mr. Burdick has approximately 30 years of healthcare executive and operations experience, including prior roles as a public-company chief executive officer and Board member, and has a demonstrated track record of growing healthcare companies. Most recently, Mr. Burdick served as Executive Vice President, Markets and Products at Centene. Prior to this he served as CEO of WellCare Health Plans and spent 14 years as an executive with UnitedHealth Group, rising through positions of increasing responsibility, including CEO of UnitedHealthcare Group’s commercial and Medicare businesses. Mr. Burdick has also served as CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, CEO of Medicaid Division at Coventry Health Care and CEO ofMHNet, Coventry’s behavioral health subsidiary. Mr. Burdick has served on a number of boards in the health care industry and was previously the Board Chair-Elect of America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP). He is currently the Board Chair of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America. Mr. Burdick holds a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Amherst College where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and a law degree from University of Connecticut School of Law. 

Beau Garverick

Co-founder, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Board Member

Mr. Garverick has 20 years of healthcare investment banking, corporate development, strategy and investor relations experience. Mr. Garverick most recently served as Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, Strategy, Investor Relations and Integration at WellCare Health Plans, a government-focused managed care company. As head of investor relations, Mr. Garverick was tasked with articulating the company’s strategy, organic and acquisition growth plans and financial and operational results to the investment community. Mr. Garverick also helped lead the $19 billion sale of WellCare to Centene and served as the integration lead for WellCare. Prior to his tenure at WellCare, Mr. Garverick held senior positions within the Corporate Development groups at Coventry and Anthem where he helped source, diligence, negotiate, value and execute numerous acquisitions, divestitures and investments, including Coventry’s acquisition of Children’s Mercy Health Plan and eventual sale to Aetna for approximately $8 billion. While at Anthem, he was instrumental in the proposed $54 billion acquisition of Cigna as well as numerous transactions such as the $4.8 billion sale of Anthem’s PBM to ExpressScripts. Earlier in his career, Mr. Garverick was a member of SG Cowen’s healthcare investment banking group where he executed over 30 transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, and debt and equity financings. 

Randy Simpson

Co-founder and Board Member

Mr. Simpson has approximately 15 years of healthcare investing, equity research and M&A experience. Most recently, Mr. Simpson served as a Partner and head of healthcare at Glenview Capital Management, a leading alternative asset manager.  Prior to joining Glenview, Mr. Simpson was an equity research analyst at Goldman Sachs, and before that, he spent three years as a generalist in the M&A group at Credit Suisse First Boston. Mr. Simpson served on the Board of Directors of Tenet Healthcare (NYSE: THC) from January 2016 through August 2017 and currently serves as a Director of Longview Acquisition Corp. (NYSE: LGVW), a position he has held since May 2020. He received his M.B.A. in Finance and Accounting from the University of Chicago. Mr. Simpson also earned a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a Bachelor of Arts in Quantitative Economics and Decision Sciences from the University of California, San Diego.

Rhonda Mims

Board Member

Ms. Mims is a senior executive, strategic adviser, and reputation management expert recognized for M&A integration, ESG and Public Affairs. Most recently, Ms. Mims served as an Executive Vice President and Chief Public Affairs Officer for WellCare, a Fortune 200 government-sponsored managed care company with revenues of $30 billion. She managed WellCare’s corporate reputation, including financial and non-financial annual reporting, brand and marketing, government affairs, public policy and corporate communications. Under her leadership the company secured its designation as a Fortune Most Admired Company in 2018 and 2019. Prior to WellCare, Ms. Mims served as the Managing Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at Paul Hastings, LLP, a global law firm and one of the largest in the U.S. serving a diverse client base, including many top financial institutions and Fortune 500 companies. Ms. Mims was also Senior Vice President of Corporate Responsibility/ESG and U.S. Chief Diversity Officer for ING / VOYA Financial. She started her career in the legal profession serving in roles with the United States Department of Justice Environmental Enforcement Section, the National District Attorney Association’s American Prosecutor’s Research Institute and the South Carolina Office of Attorney General. In recognition of her leadership and expertise, Ms. Mims has received numerous honors, including the Silver Anvil Award of Excellence from the Public Relations Society of America, CSR Executive of the Year from PR News, PR Council/Week’s Diversity Distinction Award, Women of Color STEM Corporate Responsibility Award, and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s, Corporate Leader Award. She was named to Network Journal’s Top 25 Black Women in Business and SAVOY Magazine’s, Top 100 Blacks in Corporate America five times, most recently in 2020. Ms. Mims earned a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law and earlier a BSc. in Criminal Justice also from the University of South Carolina.

Kevin Berena

Head of Corporate Development, Strategy & Investor Relations

Mr. Berena serves as the Head of Corporate Development & Strategy, overseeing the successful execution of a business combination while also supporting all aspects of the SPAC process. Previously, Mr. Berena worked at Glenview Capital Management, a leading alternative asset manager, where he was a member of Glenview’s healthcare investment team. Prior to Glenview, he was an investment banker at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in its Global Healthcare Coverage Group advising on a variety of complex M&A transactions and capital raises. Mr. Berena earned his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business with concentrations in Accounting, Finance, Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management. He holds a B.S. in Finance from Indiana University Kelley School of Business where he graduated with High Honors as a Founders Scholar.  

Jason Dunn

Vice President

Mr. Dunn serves as a Vice President, helping diligence and execute a successful business combination. Before joining Orion, Mr. Dunn was Head of Partnerships at Well Dot, Inc., a leading health technology and services company focused on personalized health improvement. Prior to Well, he was an associate at TPG Growth focused mainly on healthcare transactions and an investment banker at Morgan Stanley in its Healthcare Investment Banking Group, advising on both financing and M&A transactions. Mr. Dunn earned his MBA from Harvard Business School. He was a Morehead Cain Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated Highest Honors with a B.A. in Economics and minors in both Chemistry and Business.
